A: Fire Guard is a fire retardant that guards your thatch against fungus, UV light and bird damage – extending the life of your thatch. Fire Guard slows the rate of spreading of flames – reducing the fire to a shoulder. This will give you more time to evacuate the building or put the fire out.

A: This depends on your insurer. Some insurance companies require that you fire protect your thatch and put up a lightning mast. A point to note is that a lightning mast only protects against lightning, not veld fires or braai fires.
